Au Tchad, le président Deby met fin à la censure d’Internet et réseaux sociaux

Le Tchad détenait l’un des records de la plus longue censure d’Internet en Afrique. Mars 2018, le gouvernement avait imposé un embargo sur l’utilisation des réseaux sociaux pour des raisons dites sécuritaires.

Depuis, afin d’accès à Internet, beaucoup d’internautes tchadiens faisaient recours au Virtual Private Network (VPN) pour contourner la censure. Mais, à compter de ce jour, ils n’auront peut-être plus besoin d’y faire recours…

À l’occasion de la cloture d’un forum numérique à N’Djamena et l’inauguration ce 13 juillet la fibre optique Tchad-Soudan, le Chef de l’État Idriss Deby, a donc mis fin unilatéralement à cette censure. 

“Depuis quelques mois, des impératifs sécuritaires avaient conduit le gouvernement à renforcer les conditions d’accès et les mesures de contrôle des communications électroniques” a-t-il souligné.

Aujourd’hui, dit-il “une réévaluation de la situation me conduit à instruire, séance tenante, les services concernés, à l’effet de lever immédiatement ces mesures de restriction d’accès à tous les réseaux sociaux en particulier.”

La censure d’Internet au Tchad avait suscité plusieurs mouvements de contestations y compris une plainte infructueuse de deux avocats devant la justice tchadienne contre Tigo et Airtel, les deux opérateurs de la téléphonie mobile contraints par le gouvernement à couper accès aux réseaux sociaux.

Tandis que certains internautes se rejoignent ce 13 juillet de l’annonce du chef de l’État, d’aucuns évoquer un autre défi à relever : un coût exorbitant au-delà de la moyenne sous-régionale.
