L’ambassade des Etats-Unis au Tchad exhorte ses ressortissants à éviter les rassemblements politiques du MPS

“Le MPS (Mouvement Patriotique du Salut) prévoit un grand rassemblement le 13 mars 2021, à partir de 13 heures, au Stade National de N’Djamena (Idriss Mahamat Ouya, ndlr). La circulation normale sera perturbée avant et après le rassemblement.” a écrit sur son site Internet la représentation diplomatique américaine au Tchad.

L’ambassade des États-Unis exhorte par ailleurs les fonctionnaires américains à éviter tout rassemblement de grande envergure, à commencer par le meeting du MPS pour le samedi 13 mars, jusqu’à clôture des élections du 11 avril prochain.

“Il est conseillé au personnel du gouvernement américain d’éviter les zones de grande foule et les endroits où des manifestations et rassemblements auront lieu.”

Cette mise en garde intervient alors que le MPS annonce un meeting pour ce samedi 13 mars en faveur de son candidat, Idriss Deby Itno, président sortant et prétendant à sa propre succession.

Le 6 février dernier, les États-Unis avaient sonné le gouvernement tchadien à garantir les droits fondamentaux de manifestations pacifiques et de libertés d’expression suite à des répressions policières lors d’une marche pacifique de l’opposition qui s’est soldée par un bref séjour de militants du parti Les Transformateurs à l’intérieur de l’ambassade américaine.

Depuis l’attaque de la secte Boko Haram sur la capitale tchadienne, N’Djamena, en 2015 et la pandémie du Covid-19, le gouvernement tchadien a interdit systématiquement les rassemblements citoyens et pro-opposition, évoquant tantôt des mesures sécuritaires, tantôt sanitaires
