Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno alias Mahamat Kaka a succédé à son père, Idriss Deby Itno, mort le 20 avril dernier. Avant d’être proclamé président de la République du Tchad par un conseil militaire de transition, il était jusqu’à cette date le patron de la Direction générale de service de sécurité des institutions de l’État (DGSSIE), chargée principalement de la sécurité du palais présidentiel.

Voici ce que l’on en sait davantage sur le nouveau locataire :

? Il est né le 1er janvier 1984 de père Zaghawa et de mère Gorane 

? Il a été élevé par sa grand-mère paternelle, d’où le surnom “Mahamat Kaka”

? Il a suit des formations militaires au Tchad et en France, au lycée militaire d’Aix-en-Provence où son séjour fut bref 

? Il a participé aux ripostes anti-rebelles de 2006 et 2009 sous le commandement de son père défunt 

? En 2013, il a été nommé commandant adjoint des Forces armées tchadiennes en intervention au Mali (Fatim)

? Un an après son passage au Mali, il est propulsé à la tête de la DGSSIE

? Puis, en octobre 2018, il est élevé au grade de général de corps d’armée 

? Il est marié à Dahabaye Oumar Souny, journaliste au service de la presse présidentielle 

? Son épouse est de l’ethnie Gourane et fille d’un haut gradé militaire proche de l’ex président Hissène Habré

Officier militaire de carrière, la quasi-totalité de son parcours professionnel fut dédié à l’armée. Le nouveau chef suprême des armées a désormais la lourde responsabilité de diriger parallèlement une administration civile fragilisée  par la disparition subite du “guide” Deby.
